New neighbors!

We have new neighbors. I was pleased to discover that a little family of house wrens has taken up residence in the birdhouse that my father made for me last summer. I was really hoping someone would. I thought it would be very special since my father is gone now.
I think this caterpillar is treading dangerously close to becoming the next meal. I don't know if house wrens eat caterpillars...but assuming they do, this caterpillar better take off in another direction.
I didn't stick around to see what the eventual outcome was.
Once this little family moves out...I will re-glue the calipers onto the peak. It fell off onto the grass below last week. Check out the original post about this birdhouse here and you can see the calipers.

Isn't that a tent caterpillar? I think you should make a quick end of him even if the birds don't.

I'm glad to hear someone has taken up residence in the little house. :)

What a nice looking little house, and quite sentimental too.

Is that what kind it is? In that case, I hope the sparrows enjoyed a wonderful lunch!

Looks kind of big for a sparrow but I don't know maybe it will eat it.

Ah, that is so awesome that a family has found a home in your dad's house! What an adorable birdhouse!

That caterpillar looks like a gypsy moth caterpillar, which we are currently watching destroy the leaves on our trees. I HATE those things. And....funny about tools on the birdhouse..Just the other day, I grossed my sone out. I was taking a pair of pliers back out to the garage, but along the way, I grabbed all the caterpillars off the back of the house with the pliers. And yes, I washed them off before replacing them to their home!

How fun to have new neighbors! Do you spy on them with your binoculars?
