The Continuing saga of Allen's foot...

I took Allen to the orthopedic department at our local hospital this morning....where they discovered that Allen's foot is actually broken, not just sprained. There are three cracks. One on each of the second, third and forth metatarsals. Dr Kenny put a cast on Allen's foot which he will have to wear for 4-6 weeks. We go back in 2 weeks to see how the healing is progressing. Some of you will be glad to know that I took Allen out for lunch afterwards. (Tim Horton's) I just dropped him off at school.

And now I must busy myself baking a cake and wrapping 2 gifts because today is Audra's 11th birthday. I will post later...just for her.

Later on: When I was picking up Allen in the loop outside of school today, I pulled up towards the curb to let him in. He opened the door and said, "Mom, you're kind of blocking traffic." I said, "Well...I should hope that whoever is behind me will see you on crutches and think, 'That mother cares so much for her son!'"...and then I glanced in my rear view mirror and saw Gudl in the car behind me. LOL!

It's a little scary to think how often drs. miss broken bones, like the one in David's neck. At least now you know what you're dealing with.

I had the same thing happen to my daughter last year, just not as bad. Her pediatrician caught it when she went back for her 2 wk follow-up appt. She said it was clearly broken, but thankfully the tx was no different than what the ER had done for her(a soft shoe splint.) The ER Doc said that the bones in her foot were not done growing, that's how why it was diffucult to say whether or not it was broken.

Wow, broken in three places.

Glad he is getting good medical care, and lots of love from Mom.

Those fxs hurt! I broke my rt. foot in 5th grade. Had to wear ugly brown girl scout shoes for the rest of 5th and 6th grade.

Now, GMJ, don't scare the poor boy to death!

Denis tells me that fractures often don't show up on the initial x ray due to swelling in the area. They show up better a week or two later also because there is some healing taking place and the new bone shows up better. I may not have that all quite accurate, but that's my understanding of it. Just so you all know its not just that Drs. aren't paying attention...
