I don't really know a lot about the history of many houses here in town. Some of them, I just simply like the looks of. This little house is such a pretty little house. If you click on it to enlarge it, you can see the details of the trim. There are many beautiful houses here in our town. I especially like the victorian houses with the gingerbread trim. Sometimes I walk around and think I'd like to live in a certain house. Then I realise that my house isn't a bad looking little house...it just needs to be fixed up.
I feel very impatient about that because the way my house looks is important to me. Unfortunately, it has peeling asbestos shingles on it right now...in not too attractive of a color. I keep waiting for the day when we can change it and make it look like the cute house that I know it can be. A brick house might be nice because then I wouldn't have to worry about the shingles. Here is a brick house that is only about a block from mine.

I think you and I could have some fun walks together. You would like the town I went to college in. I used to go on walks just to look at the houses and before I left I even took pictures of my favorite houses.
Those are lovely! Come here to my little town and we will go around and look at some of the lovely homes together!
I love old houses too--they have so much character. The first one looks a lot like one my s-i-l used to live in, except reversed.
When we go through a new town, my head is in constant motion, checking out all the houses!
We have some pretty houses here too. I often wonder what mine looked like when it had an open front porch. I still miss my front porch in town sometimes. It's almost time for me to come over and sit on yours.

Living in Parsonages most of our lives, I never got to choose to change much.

I would rather the shingles than brick. I know there is more unkeep, but loads more character.
Asbestos!! (Have I spelt that correctly?) It would have to be removed if you lived in Sydney. We are not allowed any on our buildings due to its toxic properties. Maybe it is different stuff to here.
No, I am sure that it is not different than in Australia. It is no longer used as a building product, but it is still on many of the older homes. As long as it is not crumbling to dust or you leave it alone (like no sanding or scraping it), it is harmless.
We would like to remove it from our home...but we need to followow special rules for it's disposal and I think it involves some money.
