What I see on my walk...

Allen took these two pictures yesterday during our walk. Not exactly beautiful...but strangely interesting to me. These two old pick up trucks must have been sitting here for many years. Notice the trees growing right up through them.

The funny thing is...during the summer months when the leaves are all out, you can walk right by them and never realize they are there.
There's a devotional illustration in here somewhere...can anyone help me out with it?

I used to walk by there DAILY and these cars fascinated me, too!
Great shots!

It's a little different when you're an adult and you see things like that. When I was a kid there was an old car in the bottom of a gully nearby our house, and we used to scare ourselves silly imagining skulls and bones and creepy things. Or was that my brothers scaring me silly?

From James- Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.

It reminded me of one of Keith Green's songs "Grace By Which I Stand"
Lord, the feelings are not the same,
I guess I'm older, I guess I've changed.
And how I wish it had been explained, that as you're growing you must remember,

That nothing lasts, except the grace of God, by which I stand, in Jesus.
I know that I would surely fall away, except for grace, by which I'm saved.

Lord, I remember that special way,
I vowed to serve you, when it was brand new.
But like Peter, I can't even watch and pray, one hour with you,
And I bet, I could deny you too.

But nothing lasts, except the grace of God, by which I stand, in Jesus.
I'm sure that my whole life would waste away, except for grace, by which I'm saved.

Or Willie Nelson's "...Old Fords and Natural stone...." (Not what you asked for, devotional illustration, Martha and James covered that much better than I ever could.) However, it is what I think of when I look at these pictures.

That reminds me of mine and Martha's walk in her woods across the street from her house. We saw an old car or two also. It's strange to think these were on the road at one time. Who was driving them, where, and what did they look like then?
It brings back memories of the old beetle car that was in our backyard for a while when we were kids. We had a fun time playing in that old car...unfortunately so did the bees.

I enjoy those pictures so much. Whenever I see an old car or house that is all broken down and all, I wonder what it was like in it's hayday.

Hi Priscilla! I found your comment on the Tredway blog while you searched for info on Betty Scott Stam. I would love to get in touch with you. I could give you some good sources of info on Betty Scott Stam. One of John Stam's nieces is a great friend of mine. We were missionaries together in Ecuador. Also, I love the book Stepping Heavenward, too. Elisabeth Elliot put me on to it when I worked as her announcer and producer for Gateway to Joy! Could write on and on...but won't!

Hi Jan,
Thanks for writing. I have heard about the Stams all my life. I attended the Rochester Christian Reformed Church as a kid. There were some Stam relatives who attended there.

A large group of people always go to Ecuador each year on a mission trip. I just went to the presentation they did on Sunday night. I'm very interested in going.

I forgot to mention that this "large group of people" are people from the church I currently attend. (it's late)
